Graduation | Academic Dress

All students being admitted to their degrees in person (graduands) are required to wear academic dress (cap, hood and gown). It is possible to buy or hire academic dress from Ede and Ravenscroft.

What to wear

You should wear smart clothes – no shorts or jeans, please. It is recommended that you wear a top or shirt that buttons up as this will hold your hood in place. A supply of safety pins is also handy.

How to order your academic dress

You can order on-line from Ede and Ravenscroft and pay by credit or debit card. They will send you a confirmation that you will need to bring on the day of the ceremony.

You will need to provide Ede and Ravenscroft with details of your height measurement, your head circumference and the date of your ceremony and your level of award (Bachelors, Postgraduate etc).

The cost of hiring academic dress for the day will be approximately £50. There is an additional cost of approximately £10 for an extra weeks hire (after which you must send the gown back to Ede and Ravenscroft).

Ede and Ravenscroft will provide you with a refund if you are not eligible to graduate. You must put your claim to them in writing at least 7 days before the ceremony providing details of your name, name of the University, date of the ceremony along with your acknowledgment card.

Where to collect

You will collect your academic dress on the day of your ceremony. You will be sent further details of where to collect, this will be sent via email about 7 days before your ceremony date.
